I believe music hasn’t nationality, any frontiers, no matter the language. The essential meaning is in moving hearts and souls. In this time when we can find a singer around the corner, anyone can sing but only the fearless can be great. I’m certain can touch beneath the skin. Even singing in English to people from other language they can feel the intention in my voice. I have the gift to thrill.
When I was 5 years old, I discovered what music meant to me, a friend gave me a present it would change my life: Michael Jackson's Bad album. Listening to this record was like daydreaming.
I suppose some voices take longer to warm up, mine took almost twenty years. During all this time I sang when nobody was around.
With headphones the magic began: my head was filled with music, there was nothing more, just music. The sound could touch my heart: made me feel happiness and different emotions. But I wanted that sound to emerge from me. And so I knew my voice would be in charge of giving it.
I had the chance at the end of my degree in advertising and public relations. When a opera singer heard me, said: people works to have a voice like yours least 10 years and yours is natural. After that time I haven’t stopped taking classes, I enjoy learn, knowledge removes the nerves. My chance to sing live audience came months after starting classes. The city mayor heard a recording of my version from “Memory from cats”, beautiful orchestra background (soundtrack, was no live musicians). He wanted to make it real inside the popular music orchestra of the city. Was a tough time, my voice sounded like professional but I was starting that road. The director never gave me the opportunity, they played popular Mexican music; not Broadway music. Worst if my version is in the original language: English. But the best part was: I learned to hear the orchestra in each of its sections; be standing in front of audience, get tune with live musicians, etc.
I began to make my name with little free concerts: music track and my voice. Singing covers from Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Adele, Alicia keys, musicals from Broadway and Disney.
People started hiring me for events, mainly weddings (waltz) Show for groups from 30 people to nearly 2000; accompanied by an orchestra or some musicians. Between that, I was in piano lessons, voice practice, learning singing scales and recording Jingles. 2008 I initiated in jazz study: story, scales, form, and improvisation. Since 2010 when I'm not working making music, I'm giving singing lessons.
My concerts become tinged with jazz. Jazz standards heard on classic movies like: Blue moon, Moon River, Somewhere over the rainbow, Someday my prince will come, Cheek to cheek, Nature boy, Come fly with me, etc.
I’m Mexican; but all my music influence comes from English-speaking countries (MJ, the Beatles, Bee gees, Abba, Barbra Streisand, Witney Houston, Celine Dion, Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.) learned to speak English with song lyrics: singing. For sure, I sing in my own language, when I’m in my country people ask me songs in Spanish and I do. I have a repertoire in Spanish.
I was in private lessons at the Tech Music School London. And master classes with Daniel Thomas (Jermain Jackman’s coach). I haven’t any music degree all my learning is based on experience. Every time I have the chance to learn, I do it.
Every time someone ask me to sing, I do. Just one reason: singing is my life.
