Influences: Sarah Vaughan, Anathema, Klaus Badelt, Cecilia Bartoli, Mari Boine, Tchaikovsky, Clannad, Dream Theater, Martin Gore, Kari Rueslåtten, Sting, Tony Levin, Marcus Miller, Rachmaninoff, Seal, Riverdance
Current lead singer of Celtic Illusion - the Irish dance, music and magic show, actively touring. Active independent solo recording artist. Session vocalist and singing teacher. Have been and am involved with countless side-projects and bands of all genres (from death-metal to children's musicals) - life's too short to be bored :)
Some people say, my music/voice reminded them of Enya and Lisa Gerrard. Favourite music: Rachelle Ferrell, Kari Rueslatten, Dream Theater, Amorphis, The Gathering, Anathema, Sarah Vaughan, Marcus Miller, Tony Levin, The Riverdance, Klaus Badelt, Cecilia Bartoli, Joe Hisaishi, Garmarna, Rob Martino, Martin Lee Gore, PJ Harvey, Seal, 8mm... Loads of jazz, trip-hop, doom, prog, ethno, classical, medieval and soundtracks.
Prior to moving to Australia I've given away most of my gear. All I own now is Korg electropiano, a few condenser mics (Rode, AKG, Blue Yeti), Line6 TonePort UX2 (let's face it, it's basically a vintage artefact at this point), a random dizi flute to annoy loud neighbours — that's pretty much it for now. I plan to purchase a bass (perhaps, a Chapman stick instead? *sigh*) and a Celtic harp in the foreseeable future. I play pretty much anything decently enough to satisfy my recording needs, but for live gigs — only vocals and keys.
Definitely, a PC person. Nuendo, Cakewalk, Studio One, Audition are my DAWs of choice for different tasks.
At the moment I'm very interested in writing soundtracks/score music for films and computer games. If you're a student or an independent game/filmmaker with no music budget, but a passion project — hit me up! I'd love to help out, and to gain more experience in this particular field of music production. Not expecting any financial compensation at this time, but an intense collaboration and equal creative input is a must! Ideas need to be discussed and bounced back and forth, until everyone is happy with the result :)
Melbourne based only — I've had my share of remote collaborations, it was lots of fun, some are still ongoing, but at this stage of life I need some people to communicate with in real-time. I expect to be involved with all stages of writing and production (not just the vocals), and have equal input from all project members. Nothing can replace the magic that happens sometimes, when you're all together in one space and bounce ideas off of each other, right? :)
My ideal band would play some fusion of prog-metal, heavy trip-hop with Celtic, classical and jazz influences — Dream Theater meets Portishead meets The Riverdance :) High level of instrumentalism, personal and musical maturity of band members and their general coolness would be nice to begin with.
While in the long run I'm looking for an original project, helping out a cover band is an option. In that case I'd prefer to stick with jazz, soul, funk, lounge. EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT: Your singer fell stricken with illness, and you have a gig or two? Let me know, learning new stuff is easy. We may need a rehearsal, but it tight spots I am competent enough to prepare a set-list on a short notice in required keys and sing virtually without any rehearsals. Yolo :)
5. VOCAL PRODUCTION
I can make YOU sound great on a recording - with a good warm-up, singing hacks, simple techniques and motivation throughout the whole session. Drop me a line if you have booked a studio, and have no idea what to expect, you are doing, or need professional support in your face during the tracking process.
Of course, in the long run, pre-production sessions and singing lessons will have the most impact on the quality of your performance, but there are incredible things that can be done on the spot :)
6. SINGING LESSONS
If you are ready to take a step up and develop your own voice properly - range, pitch, emotion, stamina, breathing, stability, confidence, etc. - I currently work with Vox Singing Academy, which has an amazing syllabus and studios all over Melbourne, online lessons, student concerts and contacts in the industry. We are a close-knit team of professional singers and teachers, with a combined 100+ years of experience :))) Check us out: https://voxsingingacademy.com.au/emily-vox/
7. SINGERS NETWORK
Being a professional singing teacher/vocal coach, I have a great pool of colleagues, and past and current students - back and lead vocals alike, male and female, any age and skill level. I'm sure we can source any type of voice you might need. There are so many vocalists out there, who are too shy to reach out first. If you are looking for an awesome singer, who is invested in their craft, has great working ethics and is committed to developing and growing - get in touch :)
