SEPTEMBER 2017 – JUNE - 2020
BA MEDIA & PERFORMANCE, UNIVERSITY OF SALFORD
My course is the only one in the area combining vocationally focused learning opportunities in both media production and performance – live and recorded. I have had the opportunity to explore a range of performance skills and approaches from the experimental to mainstream live, TV and radio work. I am currently studying Acting for the Camera -this is giving me the opportunity to further develop my screen acting, working with ex-broadcast drama scripts, which I rehearse and record for the camera under conditions mirroring industry practice.
I am also learning how to present by exploring performing pieces to camera, engaging with the audience by `breaking through the lens'; interview technique, the importance of asking pertinent questions, listening and putting an interviewee at ease; voice-over work - the importance of performing with energy, clarity and correct intonation.

I have attended Action Transport Theatre in Ellesmere Port for over 4 years, where I have co-written a play that tackled gender stereotypes and was performed in primary schools. What’s more, I have collaborated with Stepping Stone theatre in Minnesota on a play about bullying, which was performed both here and in the US. Along with this, I have been involved in three productions, House, which was a site-specific set of mini-plays that took place in people’s houses; Zoo, which took place in an abandoned school; and Bus which took place aboard a moving bus. These experiences taught me that live theatre is challenging and unpredictable, yet extremely exciting and rewarding.

During summer 2017, I worked with Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre in Chester on a political play called ‘The Thing is’. We created a contemporary piece of theatre that truthfully explored what it’s like to be a young person in 2016 in the UK. I interviewed members of the public, finding out their opinions on current affairs, and used these responses to inspire the writing and performance. The show was performed to over 600 people. I achieved my Silver Arts Award for documenting this project.

In my spare time, I have worked as an Extra and have appeared in Disney Channel’s Evermore Chronicles, where I gained an insight into the production of TV and film - very different to live theatre!

I also have a Grade A* GSCE in Drama and a Grade B A-Level in Theatre Studies, both of which needed successful Performances to achieve my grades. This was all in addition to many school plays and performances.
