Auditions for the play to be held at the Footscray Library

The Shutdown is a play that follows a newly appointment undercover police agent that attempts to infiltrate a grassroots rebel/ revolutionary group lead by a charismatic female leader (Tali). This group prepares for a social uprising in the form of a massive online banking shutdown, to wipe all public debt from citizens. Roger is handed over the investigation from the previous detective (Akida) whom was working undercover within the group, as the group presents national security concerns. Roger is coached by Akida in how to swoon the groups leader. As Roger and Akida are placed to work closely together a chemistry appears between them both. As time ticks away Erin, a member of the group becomes increasingly unsure if the plan has already been compromised as she finds bugs in her apartment, Tali must re-assure Erin, herself and the group as a whole that the plan will work. They just have to manage the increasing pressure/ fear and uncertainty until execution day.

The production explores the concept of freedom in a 21st Century Capitalist economy and why organisation at a grass roots level is the only effective way to bring real change to society. The play examines and unpacks the recent financial crisis, are we citizens or consumers in this society?, modern day Capitalisms inherent contradictions, social uprisings in history, sustainability, gender roles and of course adds in some good old fashion romance and comedy. Will feature a predominantly female cast with a few changes in scenes to represent the different settings ie: Inside a police office/ an apartment/ a bar and a park.
