THE NEIGHBOR: (Supporting)
A man of 22-76 who lives down the balcony from “THE WOMAN” who is a drunk; prowls his apartment in search of liquor and sings his devotion to rye whisky, and mocks THE WOMAN’s “softness.” He is a harmless lush who roams fire escapes looking for unguarded rooms to break into and steal booze.

THE BATTERER: (Lead)
A brutal man of 26-59 who has no impulse control and needs to dominate and is loud with a chilling voice, hair trigger temper and goes from devotion to rage with no transition.

THE VICTIM: (Lead)
Young woman of 18-29, a long suffering wife, smooth skin, black eye and evokes the image of a sweet young thing, expresses her devotion to her husband and pleads for love and for rescue. She is the character the audience connects with.

THE SPECTATOR/Judge (Lead)
Man or woman of 30-88, the mortal judge, onlooker. To this person, Descartes had it wrong; It’s not “I think, therefore I am” it it’s “I act, I take action: therefore, I am. So it’s not about what’s correct or incorrect; it’s about what is right and what is wrong, yet this person is non assertive. Preaches to others what to do. A spectator urging others to do what this person is too cowardly to do. Sits in audience and mutters to self before speaking.
