Our TD is a stipend position. This person will work once a week after school with our Middle School crew for about eight sessions to work on building the sets and props for the show, work with parent volunteers who will be helping build the major portions of our set, directing the student crew during tech week, and setting up and running the lighting the weekend prior to and the week of the show. Please read below for more specifics.
Responsibilities of the Technical Theater Director include:
Working with our US technical theater teacher, our students, and parent volunteers to build the sets and props for our fall production of Animal Farm.
Ordering and installing lighting rentals and programming the lighting board for the final performance.
Working with student crew members once a week starting in September to work with the students to generate the prop, set, and lighting needs of the play.
Attending production meetings that will be scheduled once a week based on the availability of the technical theater director, costume designer, and faculty staff starting in September 2019.
Obtaining and organize building materials needed for sets, props, and lighting creation.
Requirements of the Technical Theater Director:
Significant theater experience.
Experience in set, lighting, and prop design.
Desire to work in a school setting.
Experience working in a theater and understanding “safe practices” with students and volunteers.
Passion for creating theatrical magic for and with young aspiring artists.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Exhibit a passion for content knowledge and a range of effective pedagogical approaches.
Demonstrate commitment to equitable and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates9/27 - 11/8 = 1hr production meeting once a week/days & times TBD
9/27 - 11/7 = work once a week from 3:30-5:30 teaching technical theater skills and building props and sets with the student crew
10/1 - 11/7 = work with parent volunteers to build the sets that the students are not able to generate
11/7 = Completion of Set Construction
11/9 = Lighting is set up and focused, LQs set
11/11 - 11/15 = Show week with performances on 11/14 at 7:00 pm and an in-school performance on 11/15 at 2:00
Fixed price of $1500 - Payment is a fixed amount to be paid upon successful completion of the play.
Middle School Technical Theater Director
