Synopsis: Jeffery, a romance novelist, visits Paris to escape the breakdown of his relationship. He is drawn to Manon, a waitress with a more pragmatic and cynical view of love, who believes the novels he writes are all 'n'importe quoi'. The film explores how we deal with and are changed by heartbreak, and the temptation to give in to cynicism.

Production
The film will be shot over several days in either January or February in and around Paris. The exact dates and locations are still being decided and will be dependent on availability of locations and schedules of the actors cast.

The film has 2 main roles, Jeffrey and Manon. There is a short love scene between the two, however the details of this scene can be negotiated with the actors who are cast.

The film is being shot on a small budget with a small crew, and so we are looking for actors keen to volunteer their time. It is a small character piece that is planned for release online and submission into various festivals.

The director is an Australian who is married to a French girl and has been living in Paris for a little over a year. He has a background as a commercial photographer which means beautiful cinematography is very important to him.

Job payment

Unpaid – this is a collaboration opportunity - This is a low budget short film that will be a great showreel piece for the actors involved.

Collaborations should create mutual benefit and are usually amateur, student or 'Time for Print' projects.

Jeffrey

Jeffery is a writer and a romantic at heart. His writing career took off when he released a novel about how he met his now wife while on holiday in Paris. 10 years later, with his relationship now in tatters, he is back in Paris trying to find new inspiration for his writing and deal with his disillusionment with his romantic ideals. For this role we are looking for a native English speaker (or can at least pass for one).

Male, aged 23 to 40

  • Acting experience: Previous unpaid speaking roles
  • Languages: English

Manon

Having been disappointed too many times, Manon now prefers her relationships uncomplicated and with no strings. She is adventurous, intelligent, artistic and loves life — but has a deep fear of commitment that means she always keeps lovers at arms length. She believes that romance novels like Jeffrey's just set people up for inevitable disappointment by peddling fantasies. We are looking for someone who can bring a fun, lively and likable quality to the role. Native French speaker.

Female, aged 20 to 35
