Fourteen is a dark tale about inherited family patterns.

The story is told through a girl’s relationship with a doll hidden in her cupboard.

The doll seems to exert a strange power over the girl. For years the girl manages to resist its pull, but at the age of 14 she finally succumbs. She nods at the doll - a simple gesture signifying her acceptance of her ‘fate’ - and everything changes: The doll comes to life, and fetches a mysterious black box from Mum’s bedroom. Inside the box is a family secret. The doll uses the secret to claim the girl’s life-force for itself. Then, with the girl lying motionless on her bed, the doll returns to its cupboard.

Using the doll as its principal symbol, the film examines the seeming-paradox of psychological destiny - you surrender to your inherited fate because you think it is inevitable, but it only becomes inevitable if and when you choose to surrender to it.

All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
