“Hatred in the Soil” is a 60 second experimental short exploring how women have been treated throughout history through the lens of Shakespeare's witches.

The film will follow a serene but powerful witch through the forest, when suddenly the world attacks her, tethering her to the earth through sentient white ropes.

The film is being made in partnership with Shakespeare's Globe, exploring Shakespeare through abstract 60 second shorts.

Director: Laura is an MA Film student at ARU with an interest in experimental films.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

Shooting date still be to finalised but will be one full day in the week of 26th October.

Job payment

Fixed price of £100 - The shoot is expected to last around 6 hours

Expenses paid - We will reimburse travel and will provide lunch and refreshments on the day

Female Lead

The main female character is a strong and serene Witch with a commanding presence. She is in control at the start, but finds herself trapped and struggling against sentient white rope chaining her to the Earth. This struggle makes her more angry than frightened. The role has no speaking lines, making the non-verbal communication/facial expressions very important. Please note possible accessibility issues: the actor will be asked to walk in a very shallow steam with waterproof boots on.
